AGNĖ AMBROZAITYTĖ
I am Agnė Ambrozaitytė, a theatre and opera director based in Vilnius, Lithuania. My work brings together sound, movement, text and visual dramaturgy to explore memory, ritual and the relationships between people. My musical background shapes how I compose a performance: through rhythm, listening, silence and the interplay of bodies and space.
I trained at the Juozas Naujalis Music Gymnasium and studied conducting at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre before turning to theatre directing under the mentorship of Oskaras Koršunovas. I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in theatre directing, with artistic research focused on the transformation of autobiographical material on stage.
My directing work spans contemporary performance, drama and opera. Recent productions include Tearful Words (2026), exploring Lithuanian lament traditions and collective mourning; Absorptio (2024), a contemporary opera by Dominykas Digimas created for two opera houses; and Béla Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle at the Narva Opera Festival in Estonia (2023). Earlier works include Dea Loher’s Innocence and Sigitas Mickis’s children’s opera Mamma Moo, both staged in 2021.
Alongside my own projects, I have worked as an assistant director at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre since 2018, collaborating on productions directed by Robert Wilson, Damiano Michieletto and others. In 2025, I joined Berlin Opera Academy as assistant director for Massenet’s Cendrillon.
Across these different forms, I approach directing as a practice of listening and composing relationships. I create performances in which voices, bodies, images and materials shape how a story unfolds and how audiences encounter it.
